Abaqus adaptive meshing question

Hi, everyone

I've got a problem which I don't understand. Wish you guys can give me a clue. Thanks in advance.

I tried to simulate a piece of copper pressed by a punch (slow).

I found a funny thing that the punch get into the mesh and the program still kept running.

Same thing happened to an Explicit analysis, that is analytical geometry punch into slave mesh.

Do you guys have the same experience?

For the picture shown below, anyone can tell me how to avoid the overlapping? (static analysis)

The problem is likely cause by the contact formulation that you are using. If, for example, you use penalty contact with a small penalty factor then the elements can overlap in the contact region.

I am pretty sure that if you use a finer meshing at the contact site , the problem would be solved.
