Does anyone know of a suitable model for simulating the response of typical ABS plastic to impact (i.e. drop test) loading at room temperature? I believe it is brittle at room temp.

Thanks,
Paul

There are many different material models that can be used to represent ABS. The most appropriate model in your case will depend on how accurate you want your simulation to be. Some of the simple metal plasticity models can provide rough estimates of the response when calibrated appropriately. If you are serious about accuracy then you should consider using a more advanced viscoplastic material model, such as the Three-Network Model (http://veryst.com/thermoplasticlibrary.html).

What experimental data do you have?

I don't have any experimental data, but I'm also not too serious about accuracy, i.e. around 80% accurate should be close enough.

Thanks for the response.
