View Full Version : Material model for PMMA
For an FE analysis (ABAQUS) I have to establish a material model for PMMA at temperatures from 60°C up to 250°C. I dont expect to find this material model in the literature or on the web (am I wrong?). I expect that I need to perform material tests at these temperatures to determine the coefficients of the material law. But what ist the best choice as a material model in ABAQUS? And what sorts of tests are required? Does anyone have any information on this problem?
Thanks in advance
Rudolf
Hello Rudolf,
There are unfortunately no built-in material models in ABAQUS than can cover such a wide range of temperatures. It you are only interested in strains less than 1% then you might be able to get away with a linear viscoelasticity model. If you need to understand and predict the behavior for larger strains then you will have to use a user-defined material (UMAT).
There are many different types of tests that can potentially be useful for your application. In order to determine what is the best set of tests it is necessary to know what type of loading, strain magnitudes, and strain rates that you are interested in.
