hello every one,

i am ashwin and i am new to this forum. I am doing masters in mechanical engg at sdsmt, sd. presently, i am working on stents. i got little problem with my material properties for the plaque in my model. i am using the data for defining the material properties of the plaque from a biomedical paper. In that paper i got the coefficients for plaque which i am using directly for defining its properties. but, the problem is when i am evaluating that material i am getting cauchy stress value more than the wat they got. i want to know whether we can use the coefficients given in the papers directly to define a material property. i am using abaqus of my analysis. whether there is any way to define the coefficents. i dont have any experimental data with me. i am taking the data from the papers for my model.

plz help me to resolve my problem..

Hi Ashwin;

I suggest you check the following:

- What type of stress is reported in the paper? If it is uniaxial or biaxial stress, then using the definition of that stress, Matlab, and the given coeffs, plot stress vs. stretch ratio and see if you get the same values with the paper.

- Are you loading the plaque in the same way that the paper is loading? Are you conducting the exact same analysis?

- How are you comparing the stresses? Are you looking at a specific area, are you computing the average stress over an area, or else?

Bottom line, there could be many things that are different between your and the paper's analysis. First, I would suggest you look at all of the details.

thank you roaneb for advice, coefficients obtained in the paper are of unaxial test. i evaluated the material in abaqus by providing the coefficients from that paper. But, i am unable to get the similar plot, i am facing the same problem even when i am entering different coefficients from different papers. i am loading the plaque same as they did. can u tell me whether we can use the coefficients from papers for assigning materials.
