View Full Version : Pure Shear Test for Elastomers

Hi All,

We want to test an elastomer to obtain pure shear stress-strain data. Planar tension method is typically used to record the pure shear data. However, I came to know that the planar tension test can maintain a state of pure shear only up to ~70% of the strain. After the 70% of the strain level, the recorded strains would be contaminated with other types of strains.

So is there any kind of workaround to measure the pure shear strain up to say 200%. Does anyone know about any company who can measure the pure shear strain data upto 200%. Please let me know.

Thanks,
Nimish.

How about torsion? It is a simple test that can be done quite accurately, and there are numerous labs that can run torsion tests.

Dr. Bergstrom,

Thank you very much for the reply. I know a few testing labs like Axel, Datapoints etc. & I searched their websites & could not find elastomer torsion tests. I also searched on internet quickly but did not find much information. Will you please let me know any test labs conducting elastomer torsion test that you may be aware of?

Thank you very much.

I though that, for example, Axel Products (http://axelproducts.com) did torsion tests. Give them a call to check, and let them know I sent you

Dr. Bergstrom,

Thank you very much. I was anyway going to call Axle products today. I will check with them if they perform that test.
