I'm trying to model silicone on abaqus 6.7, in order to define the material property we need to have test data or else the "strain enegy potential coefficients" need to be defined, I downloaded the data file for silicone from your website but they only give the uniaxial test data for compression, I was wondering if there are any resources where I can obtain the data for tensile test or even the constants.

Note that you can use compression data equally well as tension data for finding the material constants. Most FE codes have a built-in feature for determining the material constants automatically from experimental data. I suggest that you give it a try...

fare enough, but the other thing is that I have to have data for the Biaxial test as well.

I don't have biaxial data available :(

However, I claim that you do not need biaxial test data for the calibration if you use a hyperelastic model such as the neo-hookean model or the Arruda-Boyce eight-chain model :!:

Hi Jorgen,

I don't know whether I am correct or not but based on a paper I've read and my simulation, I think, actually, NH and 8-chain model are the same. I mean, with any pair of parameters of 8-chain model, there will be a corresponding C of NH so that both of 2 models will give the same result.

It goes one way, but not the other. That is:

For any values of the Neo-Hookean parameters, there is an 8-chain model that gives the same predictions.

But the 8-chain model cannot always be represented using the neo-hookean model.

I am trying to model silicone in Abaqus 6.7 as well. How are you translating the experimental data to Abaqus? I am trying to use the BB model & trying to figure out the input data for Mu, lamda & D.
Appreciate any help on this.

This paper contains the mooney-rivlin parameters for silicone;
P. Meier*, M. Lang and S. Oberthu¨r, "Reiterated tension testing of silicone elastomer."
In abaqus you need to change the strain energy potential to POLYNOMIAL, the input sourse to COEFFICIENTS, and strain energy potential order to "2". now you are ready to enter the parameters from the paper (leave the rest of the cells blank).
