Dear All:

I met a problem with ABAQUS. In steady state dynamic analysis, I am trying to damping coefficient for different frequency, but what I have is frequency dependent storage/loss modulus? How can I convert the storage/loss modulus into damping coefficient?

Thank you very much.

Sincerely yours,

David

How do you define the "damping coefficient"?

Hi, Jorgen:

In ABAQUS, mateial definition has a selection for Damping, there ones can set the damping coefficient as \alphs, relating to moduslus, \beta, relating to the mass, and so on.

I think I understand: you are referring to the *Damping command.
My understanding is that the alpha and beta parameters for the *Damping command are mainly used for numerical reasons and cannot be used to match storage and loss moduli data.

Instead I recommend that you calibrate a linear viscoelastic model based on your experimental data.
