Hi All,

I have a question about elastomers fatigue.
For metals it is widely accepted only deviatoric strains fatigue the material.
I can not find anywhere the same statement for rubbers: some people have done some work on Wohler curves using elastic strain energy as a parameter but it is not specified if hydrostatic deformation are included.

Your help on this issue, direct or by quoting a paper, would be the most appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Best Regards

Fatigue of rubber is an interesting topic since the fatigue behavior of rubbers is quite different from many other materials. For example, the fatigue life often increases with mean strain.

Here's a nice reference paper (http://www.mime.eng.utoledo.edu/people/faculty/afatemi/papers/2004RCTMarsFatemiVol77P391.pdf) by Mars and Fatemi.
