View Full Version : ANSYS 11 relink - COMPILERS?

Hello all,

up to the end of 2007 I used ANSYS 8.1 for my user subroutines and recommended fortran compiler CVF 6.6A (that I have). The current licence of ANSYS supports only ANSYS 11, that however recommends "newer" fortran compiler: IF 8.1. This fortran compiler version is however still too old and it is not possible to buy it from intel (current version 10.0 is available). Similar problem is with MS Visual studio 2003.NET that is recommended by ANSYS but not distributed by Microsoft (current vesion 2008 is available, downgrade to 2003NET possible).

Local ANSYS technical support cannot help me for many weeks - no comment. Does anybody of you, please, know what compiler I should buy to be able to use my old user subroutines in ANSYS 11?

I was trying to use trial 30-days version of IF 10.0 and trial MS VC 2008 but was not succesfull. When I run the ANSCUST.BAT, the *.obj files are created (compiled) but ANSYS.EXE file is not! I really do not know what to do.

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Hi Paul,

I think that if you purchase the latest version of the Intel Fortran compiler, then on their download page you can also download older versions of the compiler. You might want to check with an Intel sales person to make sure this is still true.

Also, FYI, ABAQUS has a similar issue in that they recommend old compilers. To make sure things work properly I always try very hard to use the exact compiler version that they recommend.

Hi Jorgen,

thanks for your reply. However, according to the sales person in my region (central Europe), it is not possible to downgrade the latest version of the Intel Fortran to version 8.1 (that I need).

Nevertheless, tomorrow I found that the latest version of IF works with ANSYS 11 even though it is not refered as recommended version. Hope not to have any negative aspects (that cannot be seen now).
