If you are in the process of learning how to write a user material subroutine for ABAQUS explicit then you might be interested in studying the VUMAT subroutine for the Neo-Hookean (NH) material model that is now available (http://polymerfem.com/polymer_files/vumat_nh/vumat_nh.f).
The subroutine is a good example of how to write a VUMAT for a simple material model. Note, the subroutine only works for plane-strain, axisymmetric, and 3D-elements.
