UHMWPE is a very important material for orthopedic implants due to its high strength and low wear rate. The Materials and models (http://polymerfem.com/cmps_index.php?pageid=mat_mod) section compares the predictions from a number of different material models, and shows that the Hybrid model (HM) is the most accurate material model for the given data set (uniaxial tension, uniaxial compression) for UHMWPE (unirradiated GUR 1050). The R2-value for the HM is 0.97. The R2-value for the J2-plasticity model is 0.85.
The different models that are examine are: Hybrid model, J2-plastiticy, Bergstrom-Boyce model, Arruda-Boyce model, DNF model, Linear elasticity, and eight-chain model.
