Accurately predicting the response of seals and o-rings can be quite challenging, particularly if stress relaxation and temperature effects play a role. I recently presented a powerful finite element approach that illustrates the use of a user material model (UMAT) to enable accurate predictions of the behavior of a PTFE seal.
