One of my computers is running the latest version of SUSE Linux (v.10). Since this is a quite nice Linux distribution I recently decided to try to install and use the latest version of ABAQUS (v 6.5) on this computer. This turned out to be quite disappointing, although ABAQUS installs OK, most simulations that I attempted to run crashed almost immediately with the following message...
ABAQUS Error: The executable /opt/abaqus/6.5-1/exec/standard.exe
aborted with system error "Illegal memory reference" (signal 11).
Please check the .dat, .msg, and .sta files for error messages if the files
exist. If there are no error messages and you cannot resolve the problem,
please run the command "abaqus job=support information=support" to report and
save your system information. Use the same command to run ABAQUS that you
used when the problem occurred. Please contact your local ABAQUS support
office and send them the input file, the file support.log which you just
created, the executable name, and the error code.
ABAQUS/Analysis exited with errors
I have reported this error to ABAQUS who unfortunately simply says that my version of SUSE
Linux is too recent and not supported. My guess is that this problem is related to
some kind of library incompatibility.
Unless you know how to fix this problem (if you do, please respond to this note)
I unfortunately have to suggest that you stay away from SUSE v.10.
